Donal Larkin is the managing partner and a founding partner of LDR Construction Consultants. He is a chartered engineer and Chartered Member of Engineers Ireland, with over 50 years of experience of construction and dispute resolution, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
He is a qualified arbitrator, conciliator and mediator, and an accredited member of the Engineers Ireland panel for dispute adjudication boards and conciliation. He has acted as arbitrator on disputes in Ireland, and as conciliator and mediator on infrastructure projects in Ireland, achieving settlements.
Donal has acted as party representative in over 100 adjudications, and before dispute boards on projects in Botswana, Iceland, Laos, Lesotho, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. He has prepared submissions for ICC and ICSID arbitrations, and for ten years advised a national public authority in Ireland, defending contractors’ claims on road projects, including at conciliation.
Before becoming an independent consultant, Donal was a contracts manager on major international projects, including a major bridge and motorway project and a large hydroelectric project funded by multilateral development banks, and spent eight years on turnkey process projects on the employer side. He has worked in common law, civil law and sharia law jurisdictions, acting on both the Contractor and Employer sides.
Donal has advised on the resolution of in excess of €2 billion of disputes over the course of his career, and is an expert on the FIDIC, ICC and NEC forms of construction contract. He has published on cash flow in the Irish construction industry, and holds a degree in civil engineering from NUI Galway, an MBA from Trinity College Dublin and diplomas in arbitration and international arbitration from University College Dublin.
